At a glance

EVA’s October 2025 release describes a mature European vending market with limited growth in machine numbers and transactions. For buyers, local demand and payment readiness deserve as much attention as cabinet capacity.

Analysis of EVA’s 20 October 2025 release, covering data through the end of 2024.

What the EVA report actually says

The European Vending Association’s market report announcement reports approximately five million machines across Europe and cashless systems installed on 85% of the pay-vend machine base. It also describes limited year-on-year growth in machine numbers and transactions, while revenue continued to rise.

These are findings about the period ending in 2024, published in October 2025—not a live count for 2026. Payment-system installation is also different from the proportion of sales paid by card. Keeping those measures separate prevents an equipment decision from resting on the wrong statistic.

Why the location mix matters

EVA reports that workplace locations account for 70% of machines, compared with 80% before the pandemic. BOHOL’s interpretation is that distributors should evaluate more than a standard office placement when developing a pipeline. A hotel lobby, residential building and staffed workplace can have very different customer peaks, operating hours and support requirements.

A useful location brief records access hours, nearby competing outlets, the person responsible for refilling, power availability and the route to the installation point. A busy building is not automatically a profitable vending location: the relevant question is how often its occupants need the proposed assortment when alternative shops are unavailable.

Turn market signals into a pilot

Start with one defined assortment and an agreed observation period. Record completed purchases, unavailable products, refunds and service visits. Keep price changes visible in the review so a higher sales value is not mistaken for more transactions.

For hotel vending solutions, include evening availability and travel essentials in the brief. For residential sites, agree access and responsibility with the property manager. Use pilot observations to decide the next configuration, rather than treating a European average as a forecast for an individual building.

What to ask a vending supplier

Ask which payment provider supports your destination country, who owns the merchant account and how failed delivery is reconciled with payment. Confirm cabinet dimensions with doors open, local spare-parts arrangements and remote access permissions. Request a written configuration list for each site type.

Compare a cold drink vending machine with other formats using the same assortment and operating assumptions. The best expansion plan is repeatable because its installation and service requirements are understood—not simply because every machine looks the same.

Common questions

Does 85% cashless coverage mean 85% of purchases are cashless?

No. EVA’s figure describes machines equipped with cashless systems, not the payment share of transactions.

Is the report a 2026 market forecast?

No. The cited release was published in October 2025 and covers market data through 2024.
